From: Debbie Stowers on Wednesday, June 23, 1999 State: Alabama Story: While Alabama was celebrating the lift of the federal 55 mph restrction on interstate speeds, our politicians decided that they'd quietly sneak in 45 mph statewide limit on all unposted paved roads in the state. This limit has nothing to do with safety concerns at all. But it is clearly an effort to raise revenues on their part without having to ask for more tax. I'd sure like to see the judges get radared on their way home from a night of court! Everyone is speeding in our state because they've put artificial limits on our roads. And they are making a nice chunk of change out of this arrangement in the process. As long as we put up with it I suppose they will continue with this type of 'service'. Speak up, Alabama. We've got a new governor. Maybe we can get this resolved. Debbie Stowers |
