State: Maryland

Story: I was traveling on my motorcycle around 1:00am July 16th on 695. I know for a fact that I never exceeded the speed limit. I saw a clearly marked Md state trooper car entering the highway from the nearby entrance. I kept my eye on him. He never accelerated until I put my signal on to take the next exit. As I entered the ramp I saw the trooper behind me. I proceeded to stop because I considered it a routine traffic stop. When he pulled me over, the conversation went as follows:

(S.T.) Where are you in a hurry to go?

(ME) I'm not in a hurry to get anywhere.

(S.T.) Where are you coming from?

(ME) I am coming from Philadelphia.

(S.T) Really, I just got a call about a group of bike driving wreckless on 95 S. License and Reg? After a while, the trooper comes back with a speeding ticket.

(S.T) I clocked you at 75, but I am going to reduce it to 74.

(ME) I never exceeded the speed limit! Can I see the radar gun?

(S.T) I don't have a radar unit in the car, I paced you at that speed.

After he made that statement, I felt like he wanted to get me on something. I did not want to debate with the trooper, because he was not going to yeild at all. He wanted to give me a ticket for something, and he did. I never once informed him of the car that was following me. I am really upset because this ticket was cited due the actions of some other bikers.

How does an accussation like this get defended by me? How accurate is pacing? How long must the trooper pace me to determined an accurate reading? Will a sworn statement from the person following me be a good source/witness?
