From: Shawn Palermo on Monday, December 6, 1999 State: New Jersey Story: On December Third, I received a speeding ticket for going 52 mph in a 35 also. I was traveling at 1:30AM in the morning in my new car, which I picked up that day. I did not think I was going that fast or as I saw the police car pass me traveling towards me in the opposite direction, I would have slowed down. I had passed the police car and in fright of having the police car turn around and follow me, like they do to all 17 year old teenagers traveling on backroads at 1:30 in the morning, I turned down the closest side street. My luck, I had turned on a dead end street. I turned around and returned to the road where i had previously been traveling. About 20 feet in the opposite direction the police car pulled to the side of the road and waited for me to pass. Then turned around, put on his lights and pulled me over. He asked for my documents and several seconds later told me to step out of my vehicle. He then told me to go to the side of the road empty out my pockets and lean my hands against the back of his car. The officer then searched me, and searched the female I was with. He searched the inside of my car and my trunk without my permission. He then came over to me and asked a few trivial questions: Why was I trying to get away from him, Where was I headed, had I been drinking, etc. I was befuddled and may have stuttered on my words and said "I don't know". He then accused me of lying and told me he could arrest me right there for Alluding the Police. I tried to explain that I didn't know that I was alluding the police. His lights and Sirens weren't on when i turned down the side street. He made me stand in front of his car, while I was freezing in a T-Shirt. Then he asked me to go into my car and press on my brakes. I guess he noticed a faulty brake light, while he was pulling me over. Once giving me the ticket he told me not to oppose it in court because he would tell the judge that I tried to allude the police. He said that I would be in a great deal of trouible if this came down to that. For some reason my whole life I have been afraid of police officers. When I see one I look the other way and I try to stay out of sight. Being a teenager in the town I live in is a hard thing to do with many police officers who harrass us like this. They hate teenagers and they would do anything to put them all away. I try to keep my ground and not say what I wish to say. Knowing that speaking my free mind, also known as freedom of speech would bring police brutality upon myself or would be twisted somehow where I became the predator, the mean guy, the one who did wrong. I have a few questions. Is radar accurate when the aimed in the opposite direction. Is alluding the police, what he claimed I was doing, even though he didn't have his lights or sirens on? Is he allowed to search my car without my consent, even if he thought i was alluding him? Is he allowed to intimidate me by telling me not to plead against his ticket in court? I cannot receive this ticket, if I do I will lose my license, which would not be very good considering I have just purchased a new car. This story was not twisted in any way it actually happened, and many other incidents similar have occurred. Please help me if there is anything I could possibly do about this. Please email me!! If i lose my license I lose my manhood! |
