From: jear@telerama.com on Saturday, October 31, 1998 State: Pennsylvania Story: I was driving north on
I-79. I had my cruise control set to ~70.1 MPH. I was just passing the butler/new castle
exit and heading for the slippery rock exit. I looked in my rear view mirror and noticed
one of PA's "finest" following me right on my tail. I looked at my fiancee and
said "uh oh!" ...you know, just for a joke. And then I looked back at the
vehicle that was still right on my tail (now with its lights on). I remember saying to my
passenger, "Is he pulling me over?" Rumor has it that the pa state police will
let you get away with 5 MPH over the speed limit. I continued to pull my vehicle to the
side of the road and the officer pulled over behind me. He asked for my license and
regestration with a really smart attitude. I cooperated fully. Then the officer proceeded
to tell me that he "clocked" me at 76.? MPH. I told him three times that my
cruise control was set to 70 MPH. The officer's response was "Well, you better have
that checked." I asked him what method he used to pull me over. He claimed that he
used his own speedometer. So basically, he followed me (right on my tail) for a mile and
then looked at his speedometer and pulled me over. Here are the details of the speeding
ticket... If there is anything here that does not seem kosher, please let me
know (jear@telerama.com). I really don't know if it makes any difference, but I was
driving a Red 1995 Monte Carlo Z34 Coupe. |
