Story: While in the far left lane, heading N on I-5 about 20-25 miles north of Seattle a big, white, Dodge truck came up fast right behind me (as in less than one car length). I moved over one lane to the right to allow him to pass, then moved back into the left lane. The truck continued to speed onward.

Approximately 1/4 mile later there was a WA State Patrol motorcycle officer on the far left shoulder of the freeway, finishing up something (I suppose citing somebody for something) as his head was looking/facing down and there was a car parked in front of him.

This patrolman looked up just a second or two after the truck passed him. Immediately he pointed at me and then motioned for me to pull over on the same side of the freeway where he was parked and standing.

After only asking for my license and then citing me for speeding (73 in a 60 and dwls), I politely (truly) asked him if there was any possibility that he might have mistaken me for the truck in front of me. As I was going only about 65mph. To which he replied "Nope, not possible. It's impossible to escape laser and or for it to be wrong."

To which I accepted the ticket, moments later he ordered me to swap seats with my passenger/girlfriend as my license was suspended, I attempted to explain that the only reason I was driving was due to a leg injury she had just sustained an hour earlier and that she felt she was unable to drive in a safe manner.

He then loudly and forcefully informed me that my choices were to swap with her or have my girlfriends vehicle impounded. Obviously not wanting to deal with the hassle and cost of the impound, my girlfriend conceded and said she would attemt to drive.

He then ordered me to exit the car and swap seats. This was done while there was a fair amount of oncoming traffic in the lane next to us. To which the patrolman did not offer any assistance to block off traffic as our door opened into this nearby lane and hence I was forced to walk into the lane with the traffic. This concerned me greatly as one of my attempts to get in the car was greeted by another vehicle in the nearby lane forcing me to quickly jump to and press myself to side of the car. Afterwards I immediately got in.

My girlfriend on the other hand, refused to go out into the lane as the thought frightened her, so she climbed over the shifting mechanism and proceeded to re-injure herself a little (she had previously twisted and sprained her knee).

Needless to say this was of no concern to the patrolman as we hadn't taken off yet and he already had pulled over someone else. I imagine it was with all of the time (none) he had to get his laser gun out and set it up for the next lucky person.

Anyway, the bottom line is that I am sure I was not going 73 mph, and that at the rate the Dodge truck was getting ahead of me, I wouldn't doubt too much that the patrolman simply was pointing at that vehicle and not mine.
